Fall Fundraiser Arrives Wed. October 8 –
The Annual Fall Fundraiser came to an end on September 15. I really appreciate all the help and support with this project. The kids have been done a fantastic job. The cookie dough will arrive next week on Wednesday, October 8. The money should be collected when the cookie dough is delivered to the customers. Checks can be made out to BMS Bands.
The cookie dough will be located in the lower band room in the band building just north of BMS. Students will need to make arrangements to pick up the cookie dough between 10:45 am and 7:00 pm. The end time of 7:0 pm may need to shift to 6:30 once I have schedules for next week.
The students need to deliver the dough right away to customers or keep it refrigerated that night. Parents can drop by during the day, after school, or early that evening. Just be careful to take a moment and make sure to just grab your child’s order. Students that have just a few items can bring them home from school.

Student of the Month –

The Related Arts Team at BMS is selecting a student of the month during the 2014 – 15 school year. The band student for the month of September is Kennedy Blair. Kennedy is the model beginning band student. She is off to a tremendous start and has an incredible clarinet tone and sound. I couldn’t be more proud of her dedication and attentiveness in class.

Congratulations Kennedy and thanks for being such a great band student.

Fall Fundraiser Ends Monday –

The Annual Fall Fundraiser is coming to an end on September 15. I really appreciate all the help and support with this project. The kids have been great and a day hasn’t gone by that a student hasn’t shared a terrific story with me.

The forms are due on September 15 and the cookie dough will be delivered during the week of Oct 6. We are just taking orders now and the money will be collected when the cookie dough is delivered. Checks will be made out to BMS Bands.

Fall Fundraiser Has Started –

The Annual Fall Fundraiser began on September 2nd. Last year’s sale was just incredible and the profits really helped the program grow. We don’t expect the students to go out and sell a lot or be aggressive in taking orders. We are large enough that a few orders from everyone will more than meet our needs. I really appreciate any help at all with this project. From personal experience, I know it is a tough time and some households may have another fundraiser happening with a sibling. The profits enable us to sell supplies and equipment below cost to the students. We also use profits to lower trip costs, so students that participate in fundraisers receive discounts on local band trips.

Good Luck to the Marching Stars –

We want to wish our BNL Marching Stars the best of luck as they travel to the first competition of the season. They have been working hard and Mr. Jones has them focused and ready to go. The Stars will be competing at Columbus North HS in one of the largest competitions in the state this weekend.

Fall Fundraiser To Kick Off On Sept. 2 –

This year’s annual fall fundraiser will begin September 2nd and end September 15. We will be selling cookie dough again. 6th Grade Percussion Auditions –

The 6th Grade percussionists will need to acquire the stick bag and book they need for class now that auditions are over. The band department has ordered the stick bags with what the percussionists need to make it easy for them. Last year the stick bags with the sticks and mallets cost $55 and we are able to keep the price the same this year. They will also need to have something to practice bell parts on at home. A bell kit, piano, iPad app, or little electric keyboard work well for this. Stick bags continue to arrive from our supplier. As of today we still have 2 stick bags in stock here at BMS. More are on the way.

Have a great week!

Beginning Band –

The beginning band spent the week exploring basic sounds and going over beginning music notation. We will continue this next week in class. Students that have instruments will play in small groups.

More students that rented from Paige’s received instruments yesterday and more are making arrangements for instruments to be delivered. Paige’s will conduct another instrument display on August 28 at Oolitic MS from 5 – 7 pm. It is a great opportunity to speak to a Paige’s representative in person. You can also rent online at http://www.paigesmusic.com. Click on the red button and look for Bedford MS band in the drop down menu. You can also rent an instrument for the year at Melody Music Shop in Bloomington. Melody Music’s website is http://www.melodymusicshop.com. You can find links to both stores here on our website.

Beginning Band –

The beginning band has finished a full week of middle school and we have spent the week going over basic music notation and instrument assembly and care. We will continue this next week in class. Students that have instruments will also start to play in small groups. We will start assigning school instruments to 6th grade now that we have a good idea of what is available after having assigned school instruments to 7th and 8th grade.

Many students that rented from Paige’s received instruments yesterday and many more are making arrangements for instruments to be delivered. And We’re Off –

It was such an exciting and wonderful first day back to school. I enjoy the kids so much and look forward to seeing them every year. I’m always amazed at how much they have grown over the summer.

The beginning band is excited about starting something new and are taking the first steps to locate instruments. The 7th and 8th Grade Bands are ready to dive in and will start playing right away. Students with instruments at home will want to make arrangements to get instruments to BMS for rehearsals on Monday.

Beginning Band –

The beginning band has found the band building and is off to a great start. Congratulations if you’re a sixth grade parent and your child has shared this site with you. They are taking responsibility and sharing a great resource with you.

Welcome Back –

I would just like to say Welcome back and thank you for being involved in the BMS Band Program. I am very proud of our kids and program. I am looking forward to a fantastic year and can’t wait to see what the students of 2014-15 accomplish.

Have a great week!

Indianapolis 500 Performance –

Congratulations to the BNL Marching Stars, and NLCS 8th Graders on an awesome performance at the Indianapolis 500. You did an outstanding job marching around the track. A great time was had by all as we enjoyed lunch and the race together. We had great seats just ahead of turn 4 and I’m very proud of all the effort shown by our students. A big thank you goes out to all the parents for helping the day run so smoothly.

BNL Bands –

It isn’t too late for our 8th graders to sign up for the BNL Marching Band, Concert Band or Jazz Band.

Here is a link to a marching band letter and form from Mr. Jones to save a spot in the marching band. https://bedfordmsband.com/bnl-marching-star-letter-and-form/

You can also contact BNL to have concert band or jazz band added to your schedule for next year.

2014-15 Beginning Band Approaching 100 Members –

Next year’s beginning band continues to grow as more forms arrive. Share this link: https://bedfordmsband.com/beginning-band-sign-up-info/, if you know someone who needs a form and would like to sign up. They can also email me at bergere@nlcs.k12.in.us.

Paige’s Music will have another Instrument Display and opportunity to rent an instrument from them in August. You can also rent online at www.paigesmusic.com at your convenience.

There will be more used instruments (that look brand new) available to rent now than what will be available in the fall. Anything rented this summer will be delivered by Paige’s to BMS for the start of school. Here is direct link to the Paige’s Music rental page: https://secure.paigesmusic.com/rentals/. Locate Bedford MS on the list of schools to start the process. You can also call Paige’s to see what other special offers may be available.

Letters have been mailed out to parents not at the Paige’s Display to confirm the instrument your child should line up for next fall. You can also see a generic version of that letter about finding an instrument by clicking the link on our website.

Year End Instrument Thoughts –

Paige’s customers may want to send instruments in for maintenance and cleaning. It is a free service if you have the maintenance agreement . You can call Paige’s at 1-800-337-0471 to arrange an instrument pick-up, ask any questions or request a loaner. Paige’s can then ship the instrument back to you or deliver it to BNL or BMS.

Some that rented at Melody Music in Bloomington for the school year may have a return date coming up soon. Also note that Melody Music Shop has moved to a new location.

School instruments will be sent in for cleaning and maintenance over the summer.

All instruments that are not school instruments need to be taken home for the summer. It will be a good idea to get them out every few weeks to keep valves and slides moving.

Washington D.C. 2016

We hope to return to Washington D.C. during Spring Break in 2016. The trip will include our present 6th graders and incoming 5th graders. It isn’t too early to start saving. Setting aside $25 dollars a month will generate most of what you will need for the trip in 23 months. If you start saving this month you will have $100 saved for the trip when you add the $25 in August  to your trip fund at home.

Kat’s Performing Arts –

Kat’s is looking for young musicians to collaborate with others to present music to our community. This could be a great opportunity for many of our students. If you are interested in more information, contact Kathy Thompson at the studio (812) 275-4878 or via email at kat1972.thomp@yahoo.com.

A Sad Farewell –

I would like to take just a moment to thank our 8th grade band students on three fantastic years. Words can’t express how much I will miss you. May you stay disciplined, devoted, determined and dedicated to making your dreams come true. Keep in touch and keep making a difference.

Have a great Summer!
