The 8th grade tubing trip for Friday, February 20 has been cancelled due to the bad weather and conditions. We will look into the possibility of rescheduling this trip upon our return to school.

After School Help Schedule –

Next week I hope to be available after school on Monday, Feb. 23, Tuesday Feb. 24, and Thursday, Feb. 26. These times and days may need to be adjusted if I have unknown schedule changes I am not aware of due to our lack of school.

Be Safe –

Continue to be safe and warm as we endure these conditions. I hope to see you all soon. IU Young Winds students will need to monitor the IU web site for any announcements pertaining to Young Winds.

Have a great week!

Indiana University Young Winds –

The 2015 Indiana University Young Winds program begins Feb. 1, 2015. It is a program designed for middle school instrumental students as a supplement to the instruction they receive in school. The program focuses on small-group lessons as well as a full band experience for students surrounding the Bloomington campus. It is a wonderful program. Many of our students have participated over the years. I can’t speak highly enough about this opportunity and the benefits of participating. More information is available in the band building and at www.music.indiana.edu/precollege/year-round/wind/. The program meets on Saturday mornings this spring and has a $15 registration fee and $75 program fee.

Cookie Dough Money Due –

The cookie dough fundraiser has come to an end and the money is now past due. The sale was a huge success, but now we have the job of collecting all the money. Thank you to all that helped with this project.

After School Lessons –

I am available many days after school for free lessons. There are often playing tests for the bands during class time and solo and ensemble is coming up in January for some of the students. The students are welcome to practice in our practice rooms and I will float around to help them with the music they are working on. After break I plan to be available after school on Monday Jan. 5, Tuesday Jan. 6, Wednesday Jan. 7, Thursday Jan. 8, and Friday Jan. 9 until 4 pm.

Welcome Mr. Appelman –

We will welcome a new face to the BMS band Department when we return from the break. His name is Mr. Appelman and he will be student teaching in our program until May. Mr. Appelman has been completing a Master’s Degree at Indiana University and comes to us with a broad background in performance and education. I am very excited to have Mr. Appelman as a member of our BMS Band family. He has already visited many times and shows tremendous promise and potential.

Cookie Dough Money Due Oct. 17 –

The sale was a great success and I can’t thank everyone enough for all the effort in helping this project go so well.

The packaging was different this year and many of the tubs and boxes look the same. This has resulted in a few more errors in sorting from the company than in the past. If something is not right with an order let us know and we’ll work with the company to resolve it.

We are trying to collect the money by Oct. 17. This will help us wrap things up before fall break. Just have your child let me know if you need a bit more time for customers you won’t see until fall break.

Congratulations to our IBA Honor Band Participants –

Four of our students have been selected by the Indiana Band Masters Association to perform with the IBA All-Region Honor Band on November 23 in Jasper. The students selected for this prestigious group are Autumn Guthrie (trumpet), Seth Jones (trumpet), Emma LeClair (tuba), Daniel Strunk (percussion). I would like to congratulate them on an awesome accomplishment and wish them the best of luck as they prepare.

Good Luck BNL Bands –

Good luck to the BNL Marching Stars as they travel to Center Grove for a highly competitive contest on Saturday. We would also like wish the three BNL Concert Bands the best of luck on the concert this Sunday at the Performing Arts Center.
