Good morning parents and friends of BMS Bands!

As the year is wrapping up we look forward to our final concerts of the year which take place next week. Both will take place at 7:00 pm right here in Schafer Auditorium and we are excited to showcase the successes that the students have seen this year in the band program. We will also be handing out awards on these evenings to students who have shown great strides in their time in the BMS band program. The following are the details of each concert for the coming week.

~6th Grade Concert~         (Tuesday, May 14th @ 7:00 pm in Schafer Auditorium)

~7th & 8th Grade Concert~           (Thursday, May 16th @ 7:00 pm in Schafer Auditorium)

Students for each grade should report to the auditorium with their instruments and music no later than 6:30 to warm up on stage and tune. We are so excited to perform this upcoming week and give you the culminating event of their efforts this year. Hoping to see all of you there. Bring your friends and family to see these young, talented musicians!

Best,

Mr. Merback

Fundraiser Delivery Next week

Posted: February 22, 2019 in Uncategorized

Hello parents!

Please be reminded that next week the Butter Braid pastries that many of your students sold for the Spring fundraiser will be delivered to BMS next Wednesday, and will be available for pickup anytime between 3:00 and 6:00 from the lower band room. As many of you already know, the pastries will only stay frozen solid for so long and it is important to get it home and INTO THE FREEZER, otherwise they thaw and expand.

The student should collect them money they raised from the buyer when the pastries are delivered. The money is due to the the BMS Band Department at the earliest convenience after the products are delivered.

Thank you all for being a help to our program and for supporting the bands. The students are a pleasure to work with and they are working diligently on the music for the next concert. Have a great weekend!

Upcoming Concert

Good morning parents and students!

Please be reminded that the 8th grade band will be performing next Tuesday at BNL High School at 7:00 pm for the side by side concert for their annual side-by-side concert with the other middle schools and the high school. Looking forward to hearing great music that night and seeing you all there!

Greetings all! A few things to mention as we head into the weekend, seems like we just got off of the last one though.. hmm.

Our “Spring” fundraiser has kicked off, and the students should be out selling the Butter Braid Pastries. Many of you know this product very well, others of you may not, but it has always brought us success when it comes to band fundraisers. The class that raises the most money will be given a pizza party in class, so encourage them with that incentive.

Solo and Ensemble is this weekend, and we have a good handful of students going to represent our school! This is exciting and we hope you can listen to your students play on Saturday. Attached you will find a list of all the events with their times and room numbers. Some students will also be attending Young Winds at IU, but do not worry about making it on time this Saturday as there will be a lot of other schools with students in that same boat.

Solo and Ensemble

Posted: January 14, 2019 in Uncategorized

Greetings from BMS Bands! Our winter season is well under way with plenty of events to get excited for the closest of which is ISSMA Solo and Ensemble. A large handful of our students have chosen to take on either a solo or a group performance at this years festival at Bloomington High School North, my Alma Mater! The event takes place on Saturday January 26th and specific students times will be coming to you soon. Please make sure that your students either rides with you or catches a ride with another student, maybe the ones they are performing with.

I have heard some excellent playing so far in preparation for this, and I believe BMS will be well represented by our students! You as parents are of course more than welcome to sit in and listen to the performers when they go in to play. Their friends are of course welcome too!

More to come, so stay tuned!

Hello all!

THIS POST CONTAINS IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING MARCHING BAND!!!

I can’t believe the end of the semester is upon us, it has really flown by. We are wrapping up here at BMS and we need your help. If your student has their own instrument that they either own or are renting from Paige’s or Conrad’s, they need to bring their instruments home by the end of Monday. Please arrange to help your student transport their horn back to your home since large instruments cannot go on the buses.

8th GRADERS HAVE BEEN APPROVED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND! This is huge and a wonderful opportunity for your student to join the hardest working group at the high school. If your student is interested in joining, we are hitting the ground running next week on Thursday and Friday in the Morning from 8-12, where the students will begin to learn the basics of marching and the rich culture and history that has been built over the years.  I have attached a letter from Mr. Berger regarding marching band onto this post, please read it if your student is interested.

It has been a pleasure to work with all of your students and am happy to say that I will continue working here next year as the band director. I am so excited not only to keep developing the skills and musicality of the 7th and 8th graders, but also to begin the incoming class on the instruments. working with beginners is the best because that first semester is when they are going to see the most improvement out of their entire playing career. Anyway, I’m rambling..

Thank you and have a beautiful summer! See you next fall!

Almost there…

Hello!

We have only one more full week of classes, plus two days after the holiday and we are beginning to wrap it up here in the band department. I have just a few reminders for parents:

Make sure that your student brings back any materials (including instruments, books, mouthpieces, cleaning materials, etc.) that belong to the school. We will be collecting next week. If your student has their own horn then no worries, tell ’em to practice over the summer! If your student is a PERCUSSIONIST, they should take their stick bag home with them as it is something you all paid for.

Have a wonderful weekend!

End of the year

Hello to all!

We had an outstanding concert yesterday with our 7th and 8th graders. Both bands performed beautifully and received top reviews from parents, young band students, as well as faculty members. We really could not be more happy with how the groups played. Several awards were given out as well to both bands, and Andrew Kern received the Director’s Choice award and plaque for his commitment to our band and his outstanding work ethic. Congratulations Andrew!

As we come now to the end of the year, please make sure that your student begins to bring any materials that belong to the band department, particularly instruments. If you had rented a horn from Paige’s Music at the beginning of the year, we are forgoing services with them and using Conrad’s Music instead. We need all Paige’s instruments returned ASAP.

The 6th grade has one more performance a week from today in Shafer Auditorium during our last advisory period of the day, which lasts from 2:40 to 3:00. We will perform several tunes from this previous semester during that time and all parents/faculty members are welcome to come. Their peer 6th graders will be coming to watch them also.

Have a great weekend everyone and enjoy the weather!
