Welcome Back –

I can’t believe another summer has passed by and the school year is upon us. I have missed the band kids and I am so happy to see them returning for another great year here at BMS. Mr. Battaglia and Mr. Lackey retired last spring and are enjoying retirement. Due to these retirements we have some new faces working with the bands this year. Mr. Rumsey will be helping with our beginning bands and Mr. Jones will also drop in from time to time to work with the BMS bands. I would like to welcome both of these great teachers to our BMS family and also welcome our awesome beginning 6th graders.

Paige’s Instrument Display Aug. 15th –

Paige’s Music will be at Oolitic MS on Thursday, August 15th from 6:00 – 7:30 to rent instruments to NLCS band students. Our 4th period woodwinds have worked well together and are all set and have balanced out the instrumentation. The 5th period brass are still working on instrumentation. We were at 34 of 65 wanting to play trumpet. Needless to say that wouldn’t set the foundation for a very successful group. I pointed out the school provides trombones and baritones for free and some of the kids switched over. We still have a way to go with the brass, but they are closer.

Bands starting to play –

The 7th and 8th grade bands have started to play. Friday was the first day to get the instruments out and practice a little bit. Next week the 7th and 8th grade bands will be in full swing. The 6th grade bands are in the process of setting instrumentation and preparing to play. The woodwind class has instrumentation set and the brass are getting closer. 6th grade percussion start auditions next week.

Short week –

This has been a short week for the band and this will be a short update too. I can’t express how happy I am to see everyone and how excited I am about this group of kids and the year they will have. The sky is the limit and Mr. Schlegel has set the goal of “Expect the Best.” I couldn’t agree with him more.

Have a great week!
