Upcoming 7th & 8th Grade Concert – 

The final 2016 – 17 concert for the band program is May 11. The 7th and 8th grade bands will perform in the BMS Schafer Auditorium. The concerts are free and all are welcome.

8th Grade Jazz Band to Perform – 

The 8th Grade Jazz Band has been invited to perform at the annual BNL Band Italian Dinner on May 5. This is a fundraiser for the BNL Band Department. The dinner will be at 6:30 at the Sherwood Oaks Church near BNL. The evening will feature a great Italian Dinner, our BMS Jazz Band, the BNL Jazz Band and the local Nostalgia Band.

Paige’s Music Display on Monday, May 8 –

Paige’s music will conduct an instrument display in the BMS Auditorium on Monday, May 8. Feel free to stop by any time between 6:00 and 7:30 pm. You will have a chance to look over instruments, talk with Paige’s Music representatives, and even rent an instrument that evening. Feel free to visit the Paige’s Music Website at: http://www.paigesmusic.com.  All current band students and prospective band students are welcome.

Washington DC Spring Break 2018 – 

The 6th and 7th grade bands discussed the upcoming Washington DC trip in class this week. The itinerary was passed out today and we have a lot of very excited band members. The payment portal will be opened on the company website in September. You won’t be able to make any payments yet. Students are required to maintain a high level of musicianship, attendance, and behavior to participate.

Congratulations 6th Grade Band –

Congratulations to the 6th grade band on a great performance at the Annual Fine Arts Festival. You represented our program very well and I’m very proud of you.

Annual Big Splash Trip on Monday, April 10 –

Our next event is a trip to the Big Splash Water Park to reward the band students for playing at the concerts, behaving correctly, and rehearsing so well. Students are expected to have performed in the concerts and not received any out of school suspensions. The cost is $30 and it covers supper at the water-park, swimming and buses. Everyone that participated in either the fall cookie dough fundraiser or the spring butter braid fundraiser can deduct $5 from the cost for helping with the fundraiser and pay just $25. We hope to leave at 4:00 pm and return around 9:00 pm on Monday, Apr. 10. We are going on a week night to rent out the entire facility for the BMS Band Dept. We will be the only people in the water park, along with the Big Splash lifeguards and staff.

I am excited to announce the 6th Grade Band will be combined with the bands from Shawswick and Oolitic to perform at this year’s NLCS Fine Arts Festival. The festival will be at the BNL Performing Arts Center from April 3 to 6th.

The 6th grade band will perform on Tuesday, April 4. The students will ride buses to BNL the morning of the performance to rehearse together for the concert that night.  That night the students will report to BNL at 6:30 pm to prepare for the concert at 7 pm. Information has been passed out in class. Permission forms are due March  31.

Butter Braid Money Due –

Mr. Jones will be available Thursday evening, March 2 to help percussionists with music and other percussion techniques from 6:00 – 7:30 pm in the BNL band room. This is a great opportunity for our percussionists to learn drum set, receive some help with bells, or learn snare rudiments.

The 8th grade bands have been invited to perform with the Oolitic and Shawswick Bands on Feb. 28 at BNL. The BNL Directors have put together a great evening  featuring some of the BNL Bands and the combined 8th Grade Concert Bands.

The students will ride buses to BNL the morning of the performance to rehearse together for the concert that night.  That evening the students will report to BNL at 6:30 pm to prepare for the concert. The concert will begin at 7:00 pm.

Butter Braids Arrive Feb. 22 –

Thank you for a great sale. I can’t begin to express my gratitude for all the help.

The Butter Braids arrive Wednesday, Feb. 22 around 11:30 am. We hope to have things sorted and organized by the lunch hour if all goes well. This will enable some parents to pick up orders during lunch and throughout the afternoon. Smaller orders can be brought home by the students after school.

The butter braids need to be picked up and delivered, or freeze them until they can be delivered. The band building will be open from 12:00 pm to 6:30 pm for butter braid pick-up.

The 8th grade tubing trip to Paoli Peaks will be after school on Friday, Feb. 17th (make-up date will be 2-24). The 8th grade band members look forward to this trip every year and we have a great time.  The fee is $30 to cover tubing costs, pizza after school, and bus transportation. Students that sold the cookie dough or butter braid fundraiser pay $20. Parents will need to fill out, initial the arrows, and sign the Paoli Peaks tubing release form.

Several of our 7th and 8th grade band members participated in the ISSMA Solo and Ensemble Festival and I am so proud of them. They all had great performances and represented our program very well.
