ISSMA Solo and Ensemble –

It is time for our 7th and 8th grade band members to sign up for the ISSMA Solo and Ensemble Festival. It will be held at Bloomington HS North on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016. It is a very educational and rewarding experience for band students to participate in. More information is available at the band office for those interested. This is not a required event. It will involve extra practice time and lessons so students need to give this some serious thought before committing. We do have a deadline of Dec. 2 to return forms.

6th Grade Band Concert Dec. 8 –

The 6th grade band will perform on December 8 in Schafer Auditorium. As always, our concerts are free and open to everyone. Students should dress appropriately for the event. Boys should wear nice pants and a dress shirt or sweater. Our young ladies wear a nice outfit or dress.

Indiana University Young Winds –

The 2016 Indiana University Young Winds program begins Jan. 30, 2016. It is a program designed for middle school instrumental students as a supplement to the instruction they receive in school. The program focuses on small-group lessons as well as a full band experience for students surrounding the Bloomington campus.

It is a wonderful program. Many of our students have participated over the years. I can’t speak highly enough about this opportunity and the benefits of participating.

Young Winds will meet on Saturdays from 9 am to 11 am in the Musical Arts Center (MAC) on the IU campus.  The MAC is located on Jordan Avenue, one block north of 3rd Street. There is a $15 registration fee and $60 tuition fee.

More information is available at www.music.indiana.edu/precollege/year-round/wind/

Every Day is Thanksgiving –

This time of the year is a great time to reflect on everything we are so thankful for. I do this every morning as the school day begins. I love my job and working with the band students at BMS. I am thankful for the opportunity to see them every day and a smile comes across my face every time I think of them.

Have a Great Thanksgiving!
