Six BMS Band Students Selected for All-Region Honor Band –
Congratulations to our All-Region Honor band students. We had six students selected for this prestigious group. The six students representing BMS will be Sam Bair (clarinet), Corbin Bushey (percussion), Calab Long (trombone), Sarah Lowery (French horn), Zachary Maudlin (French Horn), Nick Scherschel (trumpet). These students will rehearse in Jasper on Nov. 23 under the direction of Mr. William Leather from Penn High School. The concert will be at Jasper Middle School on Sunday, November 24.
I am very proud of these students and appreciate the extra effort from them and their parents to participate in this awesome experience. This is truly and honor and now these students are eligible to audition for the All-State band.
Congratulations to the Marching Stars –
The Marching Stars had a strong showing at the inaugural ISSMA Scholastic Class prelim in Jasper on October 12. This was the first return to an ISSMA event in several years for our Marching Stars and they made a strong statement. The Stars received a Gold rating and advanced to the ISSMA Scholastic Class State Finals to be held in Indianapolis on October 28. Congratulations to our Stars and a job well done and good luck in Indy this weekend!
Welcome Mr. Stewart –
We will welcome a new face to the BMS band Department when we return from fall break. His name is Mr. Stewart and he will be student teaching in our program until mid December. Mr. Stewart has been completing undergraduate work at Indiana State University and comes to us from Paoli.

Fall Concert Dates –
I am happy to announce our fall concert dates. The 7th and 8th Grade Bands will play in Schafer Auditorium on October 29. The 6th grade band will perform on November 21 in Schafer Auditorium. As always, our concerts are free and open to everyone. Students should dress appropriately for the event. Boys should wear nice pants and a dress shirt or sweater. Our young ladies wear a nice outfit or dress.
Both the 7th and 8th grade band will perform the same night. The 7th grade will perform first and then the 8th grade will play second. 7th grade is welcome to stay, but it is not required. Parking is tight the night of 7th and 8th grade concerts. The 7th grade parents and students leaving will open up parking spots for our arriving 8th graders and parents. Here is a rough time frame for the evening. The 8th grade start time could run a bit late if the 7th grade runs long or the transition on stage is slower than expected. Both bands will play about 30 minutes.
6:10 7th grade band arrives
6:20 7th grade warms-up briefly on stage
6:30 7th grade concert begins

Current Class Standings –
The 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands earn points for group work ethic, concentration and effort. Individual tardiness, talking and lack of effort lower the ensemble’s daily score. The first round was easily won by the first period 8th grade band. Here are the final results:
Period 1 8th Grade Band: 69 points
Period 2 8th Grade Band: 36 points
Period 4 6th Grade Band: 36 points
Period 5 6th Grade Band: 30 points
Period 6 7th Grade Band: 36 points
Period 7 7th Grade Band: 12 points
Welcome back !
