Congratulations to our IU Young Winds Participants –

Congratulations to Daniel Strunk and Sabrina West on a great performance at the I.U. Young Winds Concert last Saturday. I am very proud of you both and you represented the BMS Band very well. A big thank you goes out to you for your effort and to your parents for driving you to I.U. many times this spring. Both students were part of the world premier performance of, “Young Hoosiers March.” The piece was written by Brett Kroening for the Young Winds and dedicated to Dr. Lissa Flemming May. Dr. May is Director of Undergraduate Admissions for the IU Jacob’s School of Music and we have been lucky to have Dr. May visit the BMS Band Department over the years.

Upcoming 7th & 8th Grade Concert –

The 7th and 8th grade bands will present a spring concert featuring all four 7th and 8th grade concert bands. The concert will begin at 7:00 pm in the BMS Schafer Auditorium. The concert is free and all are welcome to come out and hear our 7th and 8th graders.

BNL Honors Concert This Sunday –

I received information about the BNL Band Honors Concert from Mr. Rumsey and I would like to pass that information on to our parents. This is a great opportunity our 8th grade parents to hear the high school bands.

“The BNL Band Department will perform a concert in the BNL Performing Arts Center this Sunday, April 28, at 2:30.  Featured in this concert will be the White Concert(Freshman) Band, the Red Symphonic Band, the Red and White bands together and the Wind Ensemble (Blue Band)…….

Music on Sunday will range from many periods and styles, showcasing the wide range of material that the students have been exposed to and experienced this year.  Some of the titles include Last Ride of the Pony Express, Die Meistersinger, Lassus Trombone, The Sound of Music, Count Basie Salute and others.

In addition to show casing the tremendous talent and achievements of the students, Mr. Lackey and Mr. Gales will be recognizing individual talents and achievements during a period of award presentation.  Those awards recipients will be announced to the community in a follow-up article in the Times Mail.  Individuals from the concert bands and the jazz band will be recognized for their work this year.  In addition the accomplishments of the marching season will be acknowledged

All are invited to come to support this fine, talented group of students, enjoy their talents and glory with them in their unbelievable achievements.  It is no stretch of the imagination to know that because of high level of talent expressed in these groups there are probably two students with the right credentials for every one that receives an award.  All in all the afternoon promises to be an exciting experience for students and adults alike.  As always, the band concert is free.  You all come, relax, enjoy and be prepared to applaud!  Musicians thrive on that recognition and there is no doubt that it will be deserved.”

After School Lessons –

I am available many days after school for free lessons. There are often playing tests for all the bands during class time. The lessons are available until 4:00 and I can help our students on whatever they need help with. Next week I’ll be available after school on Mon. 4-29, Tues. 4-30, Wed. 5-1, and Thurs. 5-2.

Have a great week!
