I find it hard to believe that fall break is already here. It has been a great first quarter and I am so pleased with the progress of the bands.

Indiana Bandmasters All-Region Honor Band

I am very pleased to announce the three students selected for the 2011 All-Region Honor Band. Olivia Blaker (Tenor Sax), Kristina Buch (flute), and Kyla Deckard (Clarinet) have been chosen by an Indiana Bandmasters Committee to represent Bedford Middle School in this year’s ensemble. They, along with select students from bands across southern Indiana, will rehearse at Jasper Middle School November 19th  and 20th. These rehearsals will culminate in a special public performance in the Jasper MS Auditorium at 4:oo on November 20. A big congratulations goes out to these incredible students for all the hard work.

Congratulations to the BNL Marching Stars

The Marching Stars are coming off a great weekend of competition as they head into fall break. They competed at Lebanon HS in Ohio on Saturday, November 15 and had an incredible day. They won Class AAA and received awards for Best Music, Best Marching, Best General Effect, and Best Color Guard. They also scored high enough to beat all the Class A, Class AA, Class AAAA, and all but 1 Open Class band to be named the Reserve Grand Champion overall.

I’ve had the opportunity to see these kids in action at rehearsal and I can’t say enough about the work ethic and camaraderie I see. They are terrific kids and have put together a wonderful season while having great success and fun. I really urge our students to join many of our past BMS students on the field when they reach high school. They practice just three times a week and have Mondays and Wednesdays off to pursue other interests. The marching band staff is top-notch and are doing outstanding work in a relaxed and positive atmosphere of learning and excellence.

Congratulations to 4th Period

Congratulations to the 4th Period 8th Grade Band for winning the 1st Grading Period Rehearsal Challenge between the 7th and 8th grade bands. The 4th period band put together 57 points in focused and solid rehearsals. A special thank you goes out the great people at Wal-Mart for donating apples for the celebration. Good luck to all in the 2nd Grading Period Rehearsal Challenge.

Pep Band to perform Jan. 10, 2012

The middle school directors have been asked to perform at a BNL Girls Basketball game on Jan. 10. We don’t have any details now. The Pep Bands from Bedford MS, Oolitic MS, and Shawswick MS will be combined that evening to create one large ensemble. It will be a great way for our 8th graders to get together before becoming freshman next year. We’ll pass more information along to our 8th grade as it becomes available.

Have a great Fall Break!
