Well another week has come and gone. I can’t count how many times I looked around the band building this week and thought, “Wow we have got some incredible kids over here.” It has been a busy week for our 6th grade. It is always so rewarding to share so many first experiences with our sixth graders. They are so excited to have horns and to be making sounds. The hardest part for them is that things move so slow at the start. The enthusiasm is way ahead of the skills at this point in the process. I am also very impressed with our 7th and 8th grade bands. They are off to a great start. The rehearsal procedure competition between the classes is already a tight race to win that first grading period celebration.

Washington D.C. information meeting on Sept. 13 @ 7 pm

The Washington D.C. trip meeting will take place on Tuesday, September 13 at 7: 00 pm in our own BMS Schafer Auditorium. We ask that people participating in the trip make plans to attend this very important meeting. Representatives from Music Travel Consultants will be on hand to walk everyone through the payment process and all aspects of the trip.

Beginning Band Needs

We have received quotes on percussion kit choices and we are narrowing those down to the best value. Look for final prices to be published next week. Band students can start to bring in money for the beginning band book. The percussion books are $15 and the rest of the band books are $9. Checks can be made out to BMS Bands. Students renting from Paige’s received a book with the instrument.

Cookie Dough Sale begins Tuesday, September 6

Each year the band participates in a fall and a spring fund-raiser. Our fall fund-raiser is set to begin Sept. 6. We will be selling cookie dough for the second year. Last year was very successful. The funds we raise help the band in so many ways. The main focus is for equipment, music and to keep costs down for every day needs and trips. I urge the kids to all help a little bit. If they want to sell a lot that is great, but I would rather see everyone do just a few items. If all 300 sold just a couple of things we would be set.

In closing, I want to wish everyone a safe and fun Labor Day weekend. Thanks again for allowing your children to a part of the band program. They make my day every day.
