Another School Year Comes To An End

Posted: June 4, 2011 in Uncategorized

It is hard to believe another school year has come and gone. We accomplished a lot this year. All three grades achieved new heights in playing levels and paved the way for an exciting year in 2011-12. We have so much to look forward to. We have a large 6th grade band enrolled for next year and the numbers will continue to grow over the summer as more forms are returned. It is not too late to sign up. Encourage your friends to visit the website, fill out a form, and mail it to BMS. We have an exciting trip planned for a 7th and 8th grade Symphonic Band to visit and perform in Washington D.C. over Spring Break. We will also expand our curriculum to offer more Pep Band opportunities, develop a jazz program, and add trips to the I.U. Auditorium for some special performances. Make sure to subscribe to the web site to receive automatic updates.

Beginning band students should wait for the fall at this point to secure instruments to start on. We will set our final instrumentation and have information available on how to locate instruments in August. We will have some school instruments available and you can check out the links to Melody Music and Paige’s Music to get an idea of what prices may be like. Paige’s will also have another instrument display and meeting for anyone interested on Aug. 21 when we return to school.

We have received a lot of interest forms for the Washington D.C. trip and I look forward to working on this exciting project. It is a big step for our program, but I have tremendous respect and confidence in our students. They are very special and they will make this trip a memory to last a lifetime. Forms can be downloaded on the site and mailed to BMS throughout the summer.

On a sad note (no pun intended), I will miss our eighth graders terribly, but they will do wonderful things at BNL. The BNL Concert Bands continue to expand and the BNL Marching Stars have great things in store for the 2011 marching season. I wish nothing but the best for our departing 8th grade. I know they will work hard and strive for the best they can be.

Have a great summer and hurry back next fall!
